2021 Memorial Day Ceremony

Please note — there is no parade this year.

Participants will assemble at Veterans Memorial Park for a 9AM Sharp start.

Color guards and members of the VFW #6247 and American Legion #567 will parade across the street to Veterans Park to begin the ceremony.

  • Star Spangled Banner: Ms. Leah Berst is a 2013 Orchard Park High School graduate and a graduate of the University at Buffalo.
  • Raising of the Flag: Commander Bob Davis, American Legion Post #567 and Commander Bill Scharra, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6247
  • Invocation: Father James Ciupek, Pastor,  Nativity of Our Lord Church
  • Gettysburg Address: Sydney Genek, Orchard Park Middle School  7th Grade Student
  • Guest Speaker: Colonel Adam Czekanski was commissioned as an Engineer Officer in 1998 after earning” a BS in engineering from Cornell Univ. and an MS from the Univ.of Texas in 2007. Col. Czekanski assumed duties as the Prof. of Military Science at Niagara University in 2018 following the completion of command of the Buffalo District of the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers.  He had previous assignments as Operations Officer and Battalion Exec. Officer with the 4th Infantry Division Fort Carson, Colorado. His other assignments were at West Point, Camp Howze, Korea, and Fort Drum, NY. Colonel Czekanski had deployments that include two tours in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 2002,2012 and one tour in Iraq, 2004-2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He will take command of the Pittsbrugh District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on July 29, 2021. Colonel Czekanski’s military awards and decorations include the Soldiers Medal, the Bronze Star (3 awards), the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), the Army Commendation Medal (2 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), Afghan and Iraq Campaign Medals, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the NATO Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Action Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
